The Social Security Administration building in Ocala was evacuated Thursday morning due to a strong chemical odor.

Ocala Fire Rescue said 40 employees and approximately 40 customers were evacuated from the building located at 933 East Silver Springs Boulevard around 10:45 a.m.

Firefighters investigated but were unable to identify what or where the odor was coming from. The building was ventilated by firefighters.

Two Social Security Administration employees complained of eye irritation and were evaluated by paramedics. Fire officials said they declined to be transported by ambulance to the hospital.

The building was re-opened 55 minutes later.
