A Lake Mary man has been arrested, accused of shooting at deputies, according to the Seminole County Sheriff’s Office.

  • Jonathan Vitale was threatening to harm himself
  • When deputies arrived Vitale shot at them
  • A deputy fired back, striking Vitale in the arm

On Friday, Jonathan Vitale, 35, fired toward deputies who were responding to a disturbance call at a residence in the 500 block of Holbrook Circle.

According to Vitale’s family, he was armed with a knife and was threatening to harm himself.

When deputies arrived they found the knife in a door and heard gunshots being fired inside the home.

Deputies say Vitale hid behind a hallway wall and threatened them with a laser-equipped gun. Deputies told Vitale to put down his weapon, but he refused. Instead, he began shooting at deputies.

One of the deputies fired back, striking Vitale in the forearm.

Vitale was taken to a hospital for treatment. He was later booked into the John E. Polk Correctional Facility on a no-bond status. Vitale faces multiple charges including attempted murder of a law enforcement officer and aggravated assault.

No deputies were injured during the incident.
