Wildfires in the Ocala National Forest could cause road closures in several Florida counties, including Marion and Alachua counties.

  • Mill Dam area brush fire in Ocala National Forest
  • Smoke, fog may reduce visibility to zero on State Road 40
  • FHP warning drivers to use caution, prepare for detour

The Florida Highway Patrol says a fire in the Mill Dam area of the Ocala National Forest means a high potential for road closures, including on State Road 40.

Smoke and fog could reduce visibility to zero in areas near the fire, and to less than 500 feet in other areas.

Troopers are particularly concerned about SR 40 in the area of County Road 314A and State Road 19. If the road is closed in that area, SR 40 east will be detoured north onto CR 314A, and then from there to County Road 314, and then onto State Road 19. From there, driver will take 19 back to SR 40.

If those driving west on SR 40, the road will be detoured onto State Road 19, then to CR 314, then to SR 40.

Drivers should be cautious when driving in these areas because of wildlife. They should also use the low beams on their headlights.
