The South Sumter Minor All-Stars are trying to raise money so they can represent Florida at the Dixie Youth World Series next month.

South Sumter beat teams at both the district and state tournaments.

The team has been asking local businesses to donate to their travel expenses and to help buy new uniforms.

"You got 12 days to raise the money, it's not a lot of time. If (the) community doesn't step in, you can't get it done in time, so we need them," said parent Wes Jennings.

Jennings also runs Jennings Citrus in Oxford, one of many businesses who have already donated to the team.

"It's a once in a lifetime for them to go to the World Series and we figured we would help," said Todd Coon, President of Tri County Landscapes.

Coon donated $2,500 to the team.

Sumter County has three teams representing Florida in the Dixie Youth World Series.

There's a silent auction for the South Sumter Minor All-Stars this Saturday from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at South Sumter High School.

The team is accepting donations via a gofundme account.
