One person is dead after a two-vehicle crash in Lake County on Saturday, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The crash happened at around 11:19 a.m. at the intersection of State Road 44 A and Johns Lane.

Troopers say a Chevy pickup truck, driven by 68-year-old Michael Chapin, was traveling westbound on SR 44A. A second vehicle, driven by 34-year-old Ryan Reich, was traveling eastbound on the same road.

Chapin attempted to make a left turn onto Johns Lane and traveled into the direct path of Reich’s vehicle.  The two vehicles collided, according to troopers.

The passenger inside the pickup truck, Gail Chapin, 59, died at the scene. Michael Chapin and the passenger from the second vehicle were taken to a hospital with serious injuries.

The crash remains under investigation, troopers say, and charges are pending.
