About a thousand cyclists are in Lake County this weekend for the 43rd Annual Mount Dora Bicycle Festival.

Organizers claim that the festival s Florida's oldest and largest bicycling event.

"It's unlike any other bicycle festival or bicycle event, because it's not just a single ride on a single day," said Eric Baker, ride leader coordinator.

In this year's edition of the festival there are 16 rides that take cyclists through Lake, Orange and Volusia counties. Two of those rides are 100 mile rides.

With the number of rides in mind, festival organizers decided to extend the event from three days to four.

"The festival's purpose is to actually stimulate the economic development of Mount Dora -- the merchants, the restaurants, the wine stores here, and things like that," said Rob English, President of the Mount Dora Area Chamber of Commerce.

"If you really want a sincere ride, a place to come and enjoy not only riding the routes, be challenged by the routes, but then really meet friends for a lifetime, the Mount Dora Bike Festival is for you," said Baker.

There are 5 rides Sunday starting at 7:30 a.m. Registration starts at 6 a.m.
