A new Fisher House is being built in Orlando, which means life will soon be a little easier for families of veterans who are treated at the Orlando VA Medical Center in Lake Nona.

  • Stay is free of charge for veterans' families

The Manager of the Orlando Fisher House, Teresa Turner, gave Spectrum News 13 a tour of the 14,000 square foot facility under construction.

"One of the first things they will see when they walk in is a formal living room with a small private library," said Teresa Turner, Manager of the Orlando Fisher House.

The facility will also have a kitchen, recreation area, and 16 private suites.

"All of our rooms are configured a little differently, but each room will have its own private closet and bathroom," said Turner.

Fisher House is a national organization that works to provide a place to stay for families of military members and veterans who can't afford a hotel during their medical treatment.

The Fisher House being built at the Orlando VA Lake Nona campus will be able to house 44 guests.

"I've actually been able to witness the amenities that are provided and the comfort that you feel of being in a home instead of staying in a hospital with a veteran," said Turner.

It's also free of charge to those families.

"Their families actually end up staying there for months and months with no cost. It's just a tremendous amenity for the loved ones of our veterans," said Turner.

Turner hopes the house will be complete by early January of 2018.

The house will start to accept families by February.
