The Federal Emergency Management Agency has opened disaster recover centers in two Central Florida counties, as residents continue to recover from Hurricane Irma.

  • Disaster recovery centers now open in Casselberry, Kissimmee
  • Centers include FEMA, SBA, state agencies
  • Centers will be open through Sunday

The centers opened at Osceola Heritage Park Events Center in Kissimmee, and the Seminole County Central Branch Library in Casselberry on Wednesday.

Both Disaster Recovery Centers are only open through Sunday, Nov. 12.

Specialists from FEMA, the U.S. Small Business Administration and state officials are available to help with a variety of hurricane-related resistance needs.

FEMA says they are getting a lot of people coming into their centers who were initiatelly denied benefits. A spokesperson wants to make sure people are aware that they have the right to appeal.

“If you get that ineligibility letter, that’s not the end game," said Peter Sessum with FEMA. "There is still hope and often it’s something as simply as we need additional information or we just want to clarify something. But really come into the DRC, get that face to face and appeal, but you do have that right to appeal.”

Help is being offered to both individuals and small business owners. FEMA says if you need help be sure to register on the FEMA website. You have until Nov. 24 to do so. That's the day after Thanksgiving.

To find a Disaster Recovery Center near you, visit the FEMA website or call the helpline at 800-621-3362, which is open from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m., seven days a week.
