Aldi has recalled various kinds of apples due to concerns that the popular fruit may contain listeria.

  • Affected apples were not sold in Florida
  • No illnesses have been reported

In a news release from the supermarket chain, Aldi is voluntarily recalling apples that were bought in stores starting Wednesday, Dec. 13. The apples were either sold or distributed by Jack Brown Produce, Inc. under the brand name "Apple Ridge".

"The potentially affected products were sold in a limited number of ALDI stores located in Georgia, Indiana, Kentucky, Ohio, South Carolina and North Carolina," Aldi stated in the news release.

The types of apples and their UPC codes are as follows:

  • Fuji Apples, 3 lb. bag, UPC code: 033383087139
  • Gala Apples, 3 lb. bag, UPC code: 033383086897
  • Golden Apples, 3 lb. bag, UPC code: 033383081175
  • Honeycrisp Apples, 2 lb. bag, UPC code: 079954000015
  • Honeycrisp Apples, unpackaged, PLU sticker: 3283

At the moment, there have been no reported illnesses.

The U.S. Drug and Food Administration describes listeria monocytogenes as "an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems."
