An armed man who barricaded himself in an Orlando condo complex for almost seven hours forced the lockdown of a neighborhood Thursday.

  • Nearby homes were evacuated, SWAT units called out

Raymond Lee Marshall, 30, was arrested on a warrant and charged with aggravated assault-domestic violence and failure to appear.

Officers responded at about 10:15 a.m. to the Villas of Costa Del Sol off Semoran Boulevard for a well-being check at a home on the 1100 block of Soria Avenue.

Investigators said the incident began at 4:30 a.m., when a woman left her home with her 1-year-old after she reported being threatened by her boyfriend.

Police said Marshall was alone inside the home, and his girlfriend was able to make it out. Orlando SWAT units surrounded the area, and a crisis negotiation team was called out.

"It's a little scary," said Megan Jensen, who lives in a nearby condo. "It seems out of place."

The people living in the Villas of Costa Del Sol neighborhood were forced to leave their homes.

"I know this is a real close-knit community. The people around here are all very friendly," Jensen said.

Investigators said Marshall came home intoxicated and carrying a gun and threatened his girlfriend.

Police said what the victim did next at 4:30 a.m. speaks for itself.

"I just know that she was scared enough that she grabbed the child to leave, and I think that in itself is enough," Orlando Police Sgt. Wanda Miglio said.

Meanwhile, police said this was not the first time the couple has had issues.

"I know they have a history of domestic violence," Miglio said.

No one was harmed in Thursday's incident, but Jensen said she's still concerned.

"I'm actually making plans to get out of the area. I'm not going to go home. I might go grab my cat and leave," Jensen said.
