A Umatilla driver incurred only minor injuries after troopers say she jumped out of her car moments before an oncoming CSX train plowed into it Tuesday night.

  • FHP: Motorist drove around train traffic control arms
  • Troopers say her car got stuck on tracks

The crash happened at about 9:58 p.m. on County Road 105 near U.S. 301 in Sumter County.

Troopers say Farah Karim Dhanani was driving her 2012 Kia Rio westbound on C.R. 105 when she approached railroad tracks with traffic controls down and emergency lights activated.

Dhanani, 25, failed to stop and drove around the traffic signals, a Florida Highway Patrol report states, and her car got stuck in the gravel and the rails.

When she saw an oncoming train, she got out of the car, which was struck by the CSX train out of Jacksonville moments later. The impact "propelled (the Kia) off the tracks," the FHP said.

The train, which incurred minor damage, did not derail.

Dhanani was taken to Leesburg Regional Medical Center for minor injuries.

She was wearing seat belt while driving, and the incident is not thought to be alcohol-related, troopers said.

Dhanani was ticketed for failure to obey a railroad traffic control device.
