A Marion County man who lost a venomous cobra last month has been issued a citation.

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission says 28-year-old Ian Nesmith violated code by allowing a poisonous animal to escape its enclosure March 13.

Nesmith was the snake owner's apprentice.

The FWC citation says Nesmith opened the cobra's cage because he didn't see the snake and was worried. It turns out, the snake was hiding under the water bowl, and when the door opened, it slithered out.

Nesmith was cited for allowing wildlife to escape from cage/enclosure According to the citation, Nesmith was ordered back in court at 1 p.m. Friday.

The cobra is still missing.
