Family, friends and classmates of a boy hit and killed by a SunRail train gathered Tuesday night to remember the teenager.

A couple hundred people gathered to share memories of Marcees Kilpatrick near the railroad tracks where the 13-year-old was hit by a SunRail train last Friday afternoon.

The teen’s great-aunt, who has raised him since he was a baby, says she misses the 13-year-old.

“I don’t sleep at night,” said Eunice Beasley, Kilpatrick’s great-aunt. “I wake up thinking he’s in the room but when I look in the room he’s not there, and it hurts me so bad.”

People sprinkled wildflower seeds over several different memorials now at the area where the teen was killed.

People in the Goldsboro community continue to call for safety improvements in the area where the teen was hit.

They say people crossed the railroad tracks for decades without incident, but with SunRail, they say a bridge is needed to allow people to cross over safely.

The Florida Department of Transportation, which currently operates SunRail, says it has placed “no trespassing” signs in the area. FDOT also has plans to install fencing along the railroad tracks to discourage people from crossing the tracks.
