A woman in Marion County is hoping Ocala Police find her mother-in-law's urn that she says was stolen over the weekend.

  • Thieves broke into home on SE 18th Avenue in Ocala
  • They took jewelry, urn containing mother-in-law's ashes

Police say the burglary happened at a home on SE 18th Avenue.

Jenny Lorenzetti says she went to a friend's house for a barbecue on Sunday afternoon and when she came back home later that evening, she noticed some jewelry, two watches and her mother-in-law's ashes were missing.

Lorenzetti says the ashes were in a little blue and gold urn in a glass case in her husband's office.

"I think that they saw it and it was a little urn, so it had gold on it. So I'm assuming that they thought it was worth something," she said.

"She was very important to us, she died in 2008 when my husband was in medical school. She passed away very unexpectedly, so he was very close to his mom and I was close to his mom," she said.

Also gone, says Lorenzetti, is her mother-in-law's necklace which, her husband's father gave to Lorenzetti.

"The stuff with monetary value, it's not a big deal, that can be replaced. But the sentimental value of stuff can't be replaced, so that’s a big deal to us," said Lorenzetti.

Police say the suspect or suspects came in through a window and left through a back door.

They say they will keep track of area pawn shops to find the suspect or suspects.
