Motorists can expect to see a new traffic shift in downtown Orlando starting Friday.

A new traffic shift is expected to happen as construction of I-4 Ultimate Project continues. It will impact Garland Avenue, just south of Colonial Drive.

There are three big I-4 shifts planned:

Instead of curving right on Garland to enter Interstate 4, drivers can now drive straight across Colonial Drive.

Another change that was supposed to take place this week was postponed on Thursday.

It is a temporary I-4 on ramp from Orange Blossom Trail. The new ramp will now open Sunday night into Monday morning.

It is about four times longer than the old ramp.

Lanes heading westbound on I-4 will also be shifted.

Also, a change to westbound State Road 408 has been delayed Friday morning.

The shift will move two lanes of traffic onto new bridges. However, Friday morning's delay was due to Thursday night's storms.

Officials say the best thing to do is to drive slowly in these areas and watch out for workers.

The I-4 Ultimate project will be ongoing through 2021.
