"Last year's hurricane [the shelves were] all empty. It will be empty again if the hurricane comes close. Batteries will be gone and flashlights will be gone," ACE Hardware store manager David Lawhorne said Monday.
Year after year Lawhorne says he sees his shelves clear out in the day or two before a hurricane hits. Instead of taking Labor Day off, Lawhorne worked to order as much hurricane supplies as he could fit in his store.
"Im going to spend all day ordering," Lawhorne said.
While he keeps an eye on Hurricane Irma's projected path, Gov. Rick Scott took to Twitter Monday, warning Floridian's to check supplies and be prepared.
Families should take time today to make sure you have a disaster plan and fully-stocked Disaster Supply Kit. https://t.co/RPmB3zapP3

Things you should include in your hurricane supply checklist: a flashlight, duct tape, a first aid kit, bottled water, pet food and those are just a few of the items.

Lawhorne expects to see a surge of people looking for more supplies later in the week, as we get a better idea of just where Hurricane Irma is heading.
