Patients of a suspended Orlando-based pediatrician may want to have their child revaccinated after state health officials say she administered partial doses but billed for a full dose.

  • Orlando-based pediatrician Dr. Ishrat Sohail suspended, arrested
  • She gave partial doses, billed insurance for full dose, officials say
  • Health officials: Patients should consider revaccinating kids

The Florida Department of Health said Friday that Dr. Ishrat Sohail was arrested on Medicaid fraud charges.

According to the Health Department's website, Sohail has privileges at Arnold Palmer Hospital and Florida Hospital.

Sohail had been administering vaccines intended for Medicaid and uninsured children to patients with private insurance, a joint investigation by the Health Department and the Attorney General's Medicaid fraud unit determined. It said she also administered partial doses to patients while billing insurance for the full amount.

Partial doses may not provide adequate protection from diseases, health officials say.

The Health Department is now working to notify all potentially impacted families, which is thought to include about 500 children. If your child received a vaccine from Sohail between 2016 and 2018, health officials say you should consider revaccination.

Officials said Sohail also may not have followed best practices for sterility. If anyone who was vaccinated has an adverse reaction at the injection site, contact the Orange County Health Department at 407-858-1485.
