  • O-Town West could be under construction in a year
  • District will be residential area with water show, resort lagoon
  • Unicorp president says district is $1 billion project

Chuck Whittall, president of Unicorp National Developments Inc. (the company behind the Coca-Cola Orlando Eye, several local Wawa and Trader Joe's locations, Winter Park's Lakeside Crossing, etc.) is stoked to announce a new residential area featuring a water show and resort lagoon.

Located in a vacant area at Palm Parkway and Daryl Carter Parkway, six to eight restaurants will surround a water show made up of lights, music, and digital LED screens visible from I-4. It'll sit on 85-acres.

"We're (also) going to create a beach resort feeling as part of the residential," he said, referring to the 300 to 400 homes and 1,500 luxury apartments. "It's something like never has been done in the United States."

Whittall says guests will have their own jogging trail with outdoor exercise equipment, as well as a dog park.

O-Town West will also have its own major grocery store and a bunch of to-be-determined retail.

"I can't announce now, but we're talking several interesting names that want to do a Florida destination, and this is the right place because it's right along I-4," he said. "With I-4 being completed and the exit ramps that will be installed at our property, it's going to be the perfect place for people to go."

Whittall says this is a $1 billion project.

"So it's important that we have special restaurants," he said. " We're going to create a boardwalk that goes all around the water, so people can go there, go to a restaurant, go to a bar, and listen to live music - just to have a place to really spend the evening at."

He expects to break ground in a year. Construction will take 1.5 to 2 years, so we're looking at mid-2019, early 2020.
