Central Florida film lovers can look forward to nearly 200 films when the Florida Film Festival returns next month.

Now in its 27th year, the festival will screen 183 films — 55 features and 128 shorts from 38 countries — organizers announced Wednesday.

The festival opens April 6 with the East Coast premiere of "American Animals." Directed by Bart Layton, the hybrid film stars Evan Peters and Blake Jenner ("Edge of Seventeen"). Jenner will take part in a Q&A with the audience after the screening.

The closing night film will be Alfred Hitchcock's "Shadow of a Doubt" on April 15.

Actress Pam Grier ("Foxy Brown") will attend an April 8 screening of Quentin Tarantino's "Jackie Brown." Grier will also participate in a Q&A session.

A few highlights from this year's lineup include:

"Tully" a comedy about a frazzled mother (Charlize Theron) who bonds with her nanny (Mackenzie Davis). The film is directed by Jason Reitman ("Juno").

The documentary "Won't You Be My Neighbor?" honors Rollins College alum Fred Rogers.

A documentary shorts block titled " 7 X-Real: Listen to Her Heart" showcases films directed solely by women. A total of 82 female directors are featured in this year's festival, organizers said.

In addition to the screenings, the festival will feature several panels, forums and parties.

The "Indie Women: Grab 'em by the Movies" panel returns this year. A panel of female directors will share their experiences working in the industry. At the "Filmmaker Forum," indie filmmakers will discuss the challenges of making a movie.

Film screenings will be held at the Enzian Theater in Maitland and Regal Winter Park Village Stadium 20.

Those who want a convenient way to keep track of film screenings can download the Florida Film Festival mobile app. The app is a new addition to the festival and contains a list of films and events, ticket information and an option to create a screening schedule. It is available in the App Store and on Google Play.
