BARTOW, Fla. (AP) — Authorities say a woman and her 3-year-old son died when their car crashed into a parked train in Florida.

Polk County Sheriff's Office spokesman Brian Buchey tells news outlets that a car driven by 29-year-old Classie Jones, of Winter Haven, went off the roadway late Monday night.

Jones and her son, Benjamin Taylor, were taken to hospitals, where they later died.

A preliminary investigation indicates that Jones lost control of her car on U.S. 17, going over the median and other lanes and off the road, before hitting a tanker car, which was parked on tracks that ran parallel to the highway. Jones was not wearing a seatbelt, but Taylor was buckled into a booster seat behind the driver's seat.

A release says excessive speed or impairment could be factors.
