ORLANDO, Fla. — Universal Orlando has a new high-action attraction for visitors to enjoy.

​​The Bourne Stuntacular made its official debut at Universal Studios Florida on Tuesday after weeks of technical rehearsals to everything fine-tuned.

The stunt show is based on the popular Jason Bourne film franchise that starred Matt Damon as a CIA assassin with dissociative amnesia.

For the Universal show, Bourne travels across three continents as he tries to uncover classified information. Visitors are recruited to find Bourne as he evades rogue double agents.

When visitors first enter the attraction building, which previously housed the Terminator 2 show, they will find props and images from the films along the queue.

From there, they will encounter Bourne’s associate Nicky Parsons (actress Julia Stiles reprising her role from the films), who briefs visitors on the mission.

With the coronavirus pandemic still ongoing, social distancing markers line the queue. Even inside the briefing room, visitors are guided to marked boxes before being escorted into the actual theater for the show.

Bourne is the main character of the show, but the biggest highlights are the technology, choreography and larger-than-life set pieces. When all three are on point, the line between reality and fiction are blurred, creating visually-stunning spectacle.

The action takes place in the air and on a stage that feature moving set pieces. In addition to physical sets, the show utilizes a massive LED screen as a backdrop. The screen, which is 130 feet wide and 28 feet tall, is made up of 5,000 panels. Throughout the show, the screen transitions from one locale to the next, with every image bright and crystal-clear.

Live actors are there to perform stunts but they also interact with what’s happening on the screen behind them.

Bourne, as well as the characters in pursuit of him, jumps on cars and motorcycles, which move across the stage via an automated vehicle tracking system. The actors climb the sides of buildings, performing stunts high above the stage.

One of the most cinematic stunts involves Bourne dangling from a helicopter as it flies over a cityscape. The screen changes angles, making the audience feel like they’re in the middle of the action.

Universal is calling The Bourne Stuntacular its most “technologically-advanced” stunt show yet. During a preview on its YouTube channel, Universal shared a behind-the-scenes look at the show, giving everyone a glimpse at how the show came together.

Visitors, when experiencing the attraction at the park, will need to keep their masks on inside the theater. They may notice that all the actors on stage are also wearing masks as they perform dozens of stunts.

The Bourne Stuntacular will have daily performances at Universal Studios. The showtimes, through July 4, are as follows: 10:45 a.m., 11:30 a.m. 12:15 p.m., 1:00 p.m., 2:45 p.m., 3:30 p.m., 4:15 p.m., and 5:00 p.m.

The show is the first new attraction to open at Universal since its reopening. It’s also working on a roller coaster in the Jurassic Park area of Islands of Adventure, although no official announcement has been made.
