ORLANDO, Fla. — In Japanese culture, matcha is a household name. But some of us may never have even heard of it. So, in this week's Chef's Kitchen, Matcha Café Maiko Orlando is demoing how to create a most craveable float, new to the Mills District.

DIY Strawberry Matcha Latte

Ingredients:

  • 2 oz strawberry purée
  • Ice
  • 3.5 g pure matcha powder
  • 10 g sugar
  • .5 oz hot water (no hotter than 175°F)
  • 6 oz milk of choice (whole, almond, oat, etc.)
  • 1 scoop ice cream of choice — matcha, vanilla, strawberry, or citrus will work well.

Instructions:

  1. Put the strawberry purée into the bottom of a large cup, and then fill the cup 3/4 full with ice.

  2. Measure the matcha powder and sugar into a small bowl. Pour the hot water into the bowl, and whisk vigorously to dissolve all the matcha and sugar.

  3. Pour half the milk into the bowl and stir to combine, then pour in the rest of the milk and stir again.

  4. Pour the matcha latte into the cup. Top it off with a scoop of ice cream and enjoy!

  5. Note: You can adjust the amounts of matcha powder and sugar to your own taste. Use fresh matcha powder for the best results, as it can oxidize and lose flavor over time once opened.
