Residents at the Village Green Mobile Home Park in St. Petersburg can sleep a little easier.

Spectrum employees teamed up with the Red Cross Friday to install free smoke alarms in the community.

It's all part of the Spectrum Housing Assist Program.

The goal of the program is to help improve 50,000 homes in our communities by 2020.

"We've changed lives for a number of residents who were impacted by the hurricane that struck us so hard last year," said Joe Durkin, director of communications for Spectrum. "Went out there and redid roofs, redid interiors, painting, landscaping."

So far Spectrum Housing Assist has helped improve more than 16,000 homes.

Charter Communications is the parent company of Spectrum and Spectrum Bay News 9.
