A former Polk County teacher is giving his peers something to laugh about even during the pandemic.

What You Need To Know

Devin Siebold spent years teaching high school social studies classes.

He also performed a comedy routine on the side.

Siebold decided to leave teaching after the pandemic broke out to focus on his comedy career full-time but he is gearing his humor toward classroom life.

"I always get told by teachers that I'm saying everything they want to say but can't," he said.

Siebold has built quite a following, racking up thousands and thousands of views on his You Tube and Facebook videos.

"I probably get at least one message a day from a teacher that says I'm single-handedly keeping them teaching," he said.

He also started a podcast called "Crying in my Car" aimed at turning teachers tears and frustration into laughter.

"The good news is that when they go to their car now they don't cry, they listen to the podcast and they laugh," Siebold said.

He uses humor to tackle topics that are serious and pandemic-related.

"Everything from Zoom teaching to ridiculous school district meetings all the way to parents and their views of COVID, the mask policy, going into hybrid teaching," he said. "All those topics are talked about but in a humorous way."

Siebold said he has nothing but respect and admiration for teachers who are still on the job.

"Some people say, "Oh you're mocking it,' but I don't think I am. I think it's the complete opposite of that. I'm actually elevating it by saying this is what we're going through, here's how we can tackle it and trying to do some positive," he said.

He said "Crying in my Car" has gone international.

It's available in 140 countries and Siebold said he gets messages from teachers all over saying they are experiencing many of the same things.
