ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — The old tale of the "Grasshopper and the Ant" is alive and well at the Museum of Fine Arts St. Petersburg.

  • "Grasshopper and the Ant" exhibition from artist Jennifer Angus
  • Exhibition on display through Jan. 5, 2020
  • More On the Town stories

“It’s really, really exciting to see people as they walk in and they just kind of light up with surprise,” said Erin Wilson, curatorial and registration assistant at the museum.

They may be surprised because bugs aren’t typically art, but in this exhibition by artist Jennifer Angus, the bugs are definitely in the spotlight.

“It’s entirely unique. Where else would you see thousands of insects put together in these beautiful patterns and designs?” said Wilson.

Inspired by a painting she saw at the MFA a few months back, Angus decided to build her 7,000 square-foot exhibit entitled "'The Grasshopper and the Ant' and Other Stories" to showcase the beauty of insects.
