The troubled Crystal River nuclear plant is facing even more controversy.
According to Bay News 9's partner paper, the Tampa Bay Times, a report was issued this week that shows Progress Energy Florida did not have proper monitoring systems to alert workers if there was a radiation leak.
According to the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission, that means the public may not have been warned if there was a problem. The report said a key part of the problem was a lack of training for use of the radiation detection equipment.
Duke Energy has recently announced plans to shut down the nuclear plant, which has been offline since 2009 after cracks were found in the reactor's concrete containment building.
