The man who authorities say drove his vehicle off the Sunshine Skyway pier Wednesday afternoon and died has been identified as a 52-year-old from Eustis.
The body of Richard K. McCrocklin was removed from the water, along with his car, a 2012 2-door Mercedes Benz.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, McCrocklin drove through the barriers and off the end of the south Skyway Fishing pier into Tampa Bay at 2:05 p.m.
The area of the bay where this occurred is located within Hillsborough County.
Divers from St. Petersburg Fire Rescue located the submerged vehicle which was recovered, along with McCrocklin's body still inside the vehicle.
The FHP report indicated McCrocklin was not under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash. The crash remains under investigation and no further information has been provided.
