LARGO, Fla. -- A 25-year-old Florida father is in custody after the death of his infant son and hospitalization of his daughter after extreme heat in their mobile home.

William Francis Hendrickson is facing charges of aggravated manslaughter of a child after the death of his 8-month-old son and child neglect of his 2-year-old daughter after the children were found in extreme heat.

Police responded to assist Pinellas County Child Protection Investigators with a welfare check of two children.

Upon arrival, officers found the boy who was unresponsive due to extreme heat in the trailer. Officers and Largo Fire paramedics responded performed CPR on the child but the infant died at the scene. 

The girl was transported to All Children's Hospital in St. Petersburg due to severe dehydration.

Largo Police detectives began an investigation into the circumstances of the boy's death and arrested Hendrickson. Detectives recorded the temperature in the mobile home's bedroom at 109 degrees at 1 p.m. Thursday. 

According to authorities, Hendrickson had been warned by social services not to leave the children in the hot environment of the bedroom.
