Tampa police are trying identify a second suspect in an East Tampa homicide. 

  • Second suspect sought in fatal East Tampa carjacking and robbery
  • Davaughn Shaheed, 55, killed; Another man injured
  • One suspect in custody, 2nd man sought

The robbery and carjacking that left 55-year-old Davaughn Shaheed dead and seriously injured another man happened in the early hours of October 1 near the Ybor Grocery store at 3401 N. 15th Street. 

Two men asked Shaheed for a ride as he was leaving the store. The group got a few blocks away from the store when the passengers pulled out guns and ordered Shaheed and his friend out of the vehicle. The men were ordered to take off their pants and lay in the road.

The gunmen robbed the men of their cash and jewelry and shot them. Shaheed died at the scene, his friend, whose name has not been released, was seriously injured.

Police have made some progress in the case. 

John Jarah Hicks III, 21, was arrested on Oct. 5 in connection with the murder and robbery. Police are still searching for the other suspect, described as a tall, thin man who was wearing a dark jacket and hat.
