A law enforcement officer was stabbed while trying to arrest a man accused of beating a woman.

The stabbing occurred around 10:47 p.m. on Saturday at 37 Causeway Boulevard in the Marina parking lot. 

Clearwater Police said officers responded to 37 Causeway in reference to a male beating a female. 

Officers said when they arrived Justin Shuford, 36, was being aggressive toward citizens that came to the aid of the female. 

Shuford was armed with a small knife that he had concealed, and when the officers tried to take the suspect into custody, he stabbed and/or cut three officers with the knife, officials said. 

Shuford was charged with attempted homicide, aggravated battery on a law enforcement officer, resisting arrest with violence, and domestic battery.
