A man is in the Volusia County Jail without bond after deputies say he is responsible for raping a woman in both Flagler and Volusia counties.

  • Man arrested for allegedly raping woman in Flager, Volusia counties
  • Victim kidnapped when walking home from a friend's house
  • Watkins is a registered sex offender w/ violent history

“This was absolutely a brutal attack," said Sheriff Rick Staly.

Scratches, blunt force trauma, and injuries all over her body is how deputies say 34-year-old Obtravies Watkins left a woman’s body.

Sheriff Staly said it started early Monday morning at midnight, and they received the 911 call around 9:30 a.m., seven hours later.

Flagler deputies say Watkins kidnapped the 25-year-old victim in Daytona Beach near Fremont Avenue and South Ridgewood.

According to the report, the woman was walking home from a friend's house when Watkins approached her asking if she needed a ride. Then deputies say she was kidnapped.

"Seven hours of being held against your will, driven all over two counties, attacked multiple times, dragged out in the woods and left for dead," Sheriff Staly said.

The report said the woman initially agreed the suspect could pay her $70 for sex, but was still raped after she refused other sexual encounters.

The victim told investigators she repeatedly tried to get out of the car, and each time she stopped after he threatened to kill her. Deputies said they found a lubricant and a $50 bill near one of the scenes.

Someone passing by saw the woman crawling out of the woods naked and bleeding between the Volusia and Flagler County lines near Pecos and Old Kings Road.

Deputies say her attacker raped her twice, strangled her with a belt tied around her neck and even left shoe marks in the back of her head.

"He put his foot on the back of her head and tightened the belt even more until she lost consciousness and left her for dead," said Staly.

"Our heart goes out to the victim. We’ll do all within our power to help her find peace," said John Creamer, Chief Deputy of Volusia County Sheriff's Office.

The sheriff says Watkins is a registered sex offender with a violent history, and he’s been arrested and served time in prison.

He has more than 20 felony charges and 10 misdemeanors, including child pornography, drugs, robbery, failure to register as a sex offender, soliciting sex from a minor, driving with a suspended license, and others.
