The mother of a Sarasota teenager that has been missing since September was involved in a fatal crash Thursday.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Tawana T. Spann, 37, was driving a 2015 Nissan Sentra at 1:25 a.m. that struck a woman walking in the street. 

Troopers said the crash happened on U.S. 301 near east 15th Street in Bradenton. The 33-year-old Bradenton woman appeared to be crossing the street and walked into the path of the Nissan, officials said.

The front of the Nissan struck the woman's left side. She was pronounced dead at the scene, according to FHP. The woman's identity has not been released as of yet. 

Tawana T. Spann is the mother of Jabez Spann, 15, who has been missing from his Sarasota home since Sept. 4.  

The reward for information about his disappearance has risen to $50,000. Anyone with information is asked to call Sarasota Crime Stoppers at 1-941-366-TIPS (8477).
