A 28-year-old man, who officials say was driving drunk, died overnight after he struck a tree.

The accident occurred around 1:30 a.m. Saturday on Park Street North, in the 1200 block. 

St. Pete police said the driver, traveling in a 2011 Chevrolet HHR, was southbound on Park Street and failed to negotiate a curve in the roadway. 

The Chevrolet jumped the west curb, left the roadway, and struck a large tree. 

Officials said the driver was not wearing a seat belt and was impaired at the time of the crash. 

No other people were involved in the crash. 

The victim's name is not being released until notification of next of kin.
