The man accused of shooting at a sheriff’s deputy is back in Orange County Thursday morning where he will face a judge.

Tyrese Cooper was arrested on Monday night after investigators received a tip he was in Winter Haven. He was booked into the Polk County Jail and Wednesday he was transported to the Orange County Jail.

Investigators say Cooper, 18, was a passenger in a white Honda Accord that was being followed by an undercover sheriff’s deputy last week in the Pine Hills area.

The Orange County Sheriff’s Office stated that when the Accord stopped on Wyndham Lane, the car window rolled down and Cooper started firing at the sheriff’s deputy.

The deputy was not hurt, but Cooper and three other men got away.

“It could have turned out drastically worse for my deputy and for him,” Orange County Sheriff Jerry Demings told News 13 on Tuesday. “And the fact that he’s now off the streets, we’ll let the courts and the system determine his fate, but I’m happy it didn’t get worse.”

Investigators were quick to arrest the three other men, Leonaldo Gourdet Jr., Matthew Jerome and Richie Pierre, who were in the car.

The 20-year-old Gourdet is facing the following charges: Accessory after/attempted first-degree murder of a law enforcement officer with a firearm.

Both Jerome, 18, and Pierre, 17, are facing burglary of a structure and resisting without violence charges.

Officials say they gave information that led to identifying Cooper as the gunman. Cooper faces several charges, including attempted first-degree murder of a law enforcement officer.
