Students are remembering the moment their bus was involved in a scary collision Wednesday with a tractor-trailer in Hernando County.

Eighteen students were on board. Six had minor injuries.

"I said 'Oh my God, this is actually happening' and then just started getting people out," Marin Aske said.

It was a normal morning for Marin, heading to school at Hernando High School with his brother when suddenly things went wrong.

"Out of no where we were getting thrown around, and then the bus just tipped and went from one side of the bus to the other," Marin said.

FHP officials say a semi truck exiting I-75 southbound failed to stop at a light at an intersection, hitting Marin’s bus and knocking it off its axle.

Marin said when the bus settled on its side, he and his brother helped open the hatch and back door. Construction workers on scene helped them get all the students to safety.

"There are other kids that are, like, physically in tears because they were scared for their lives," he explained.

Marin's dad, Mark, said seeing his boys safe was a huge relief.

"You always see these things on TV and other communities, but you don't think it's going to happen in yours," Mark said. "I was just so proud of these two for reacting the way they did."

Marin said he's just thankful everyone on board was ok.

"You never know when life can just be taken from you like that, so anytime you can survive something like that you just got to appreciate it," Marin explained.

Marin did say he is a little sore, but otherwise feels fine. We're told those six students that did report some very minor injuries are expected to be ok.

FHP said the driver of the truck will face charges for failing to stop at the light.
