PALM HARBOR, Fla. -- A local dog has a chance to win a national contest and you can help.

Rosie is a three-legged Great Dane we first introduced to you to two years ago. Both Rosie and her owner, Maja Kazazic, each have a prosthetic leg.

Rosie lost one of her legs as a puppy, when her mom stepped on it and broke it.  Kazazic had to have one of her legs amputated as a teenager living in Bosnia in 1993.

"I was 16 years old hanging out with 5 of my friends," Kazazic said. "A bomb exploded about 5-10 feet from us, killing all of my friends instantly."

Years later, after moving to the United States, Kazazic said she realized she was suffering from PTSD.  Rosie became her service dog and soon, her symptoms became more manageable.

"She's allowed me to live a normal life," Kazazic said. "I'm able to just function like a normal person."

A grateful Kazazic recently nominated Rosie for the American Humane Hero Dog Awards, a national contest, culminating with a ceremony in Los Angeles.

"We would be heading off to Hollywood," Kazazic said.  "I would love to see Rosie on the red carpet."

To help Rosie make it through the first round, you can vote for her at http://herodogawards.org/dog/rosie/

The deadline is 3 p.m Wednesday.
