  • Uvo-Kk Ayoma Uvo charged with aggravated manslaughter
  • Baby was son of Uvo's girlfriend

According to Sarasota police, Uvo-Kk Ayoma Uvo has been charged with aggravated manslaughter of his girlfriend's son following a December 2017 aggravated battery case.

A medical examiner's final report, completed last week, declared the death was a homicide.

Police said the Dec. 27 incident happened in the Lockwood Ridge and 17th Street area in Sarasota.

The child’s mother told police dispatchers her son was not breathing and unresponsive. Paramedics responded and the child was transported to Sarasota Memorial Hospital.

Detectives said Uvo had picked up his girlfriend, the baby's mother, at a nail salon with the child in the vehicle.

The mother said the child was lifeless and felt slightly cold to the touch. When she called 911, Uvo left the scene. He later said he did that because he had three warrants out of Lee County.

The child was transported to All Children's Hospital in St. Petersburg where he died Dec. 29. Doctors at All Children’s Hospital told Sarasota detectives they suspected child abuse.

On December 28, 2017, Uvo spoke with detectives.

He was initially charged with aggravated child abuse and child neglect.

This week, those charges were upgraded to aggravated manslaughter due to the medical examiner's report.

Uvo remains in the Sarasota County Jail without bail.
