TAMPA, Fla. — A Tampa man is still in the hospital and still searching for answers after he was struck by a truck while riding his bike and left to die last month.

  • Dwayne Fredrick, 48, suffered a broken clavicle, fractured skull, kidney damage
  • Police only have surveillance video of truck
  • Have information? Contact Crime Stoppers: 1-800-873-TIPS

48-year-old Dwayne Fredrick was riding his bike on Cleveland Street in the early morning hours of March 18 when he was hit by a silver Ford F150. Luckily, witnesses were nearby to help him and call 911, but the injuries he suffered were serious.

"He had to be on dialysis for two weeks because his kidneys were damaged," Dwayne's wife, Paula Fredrick, said. "He had a broken clavicle, a brain bleed, on the other side he had a fractured skull."

Fredrick said it’s without a doubt been one of the hardest months of his life.

"It's been hell," he said. "If it weren't for God and a few other people, I wouldn't be here."

While he is progressing in his recovery, there's been little progress in the investigation into the incident that put him in his hospital bed.

"For somebody to watch and see me in this kind of pain and knowing they caused it ... what kind of person is that? Did the devil himself run me over?" Fredrick said.

Police do not have a driver description — only surveillance video of the truck. The family worries they could hurt someone else.

"Please let us get some justice," said Paula. "Let us sleep at night and not worry about the next person, I beg you."

The family has set up a GoFundme page to help with medical expenses.

If you have any information about who may have hit Dwayne Fredrick, call Tampa Police or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-873-TIPS (8477).
