Dade City Police detectives arrested a 29-year-old man Thursday in connection with the hit-and-run crash that killed 53-year-old Thomas Burdeshaw on April 21, 2018.

According to a news release, Gregory Germaine Pye, 29, turned himself in to police late Thursday. He was charged with leaving the scene of an accident involving a death, a first degree felony.

Investigators said Burdeshaw was laying near the edge of the roadway on the south side of Blanton Road when he was struck by Pye's vehicle at around 1:45 a.m. on April 21. Pye reportedly did return to the scene and see Burdeshaw critically injured, but did not report striking him to police or render reasonable assistance, as required by Florida law.

Pye's vehicle was later located by police and towed when damage to the vehicle proved consistent with evidence left at the scene of the hit-and-run.

Pye was transported to the Land O'Lakes detention center. As of Thursday evening, he was awaiting a bail hearing.
