ORLANDO, Fla. -- The man found inside a burning vehicle Monday night has been identified as 64-year-old Benny Lee Green, Orlando Police Department reports.

Orlando Police officers were called at about 11:30 p.m. to the Crossroads Apartments on 4285 Crossroads Court, where they found a a huge fire behind a storage shed. 

People who live nearby said they heard the distinct sounds of two gunshots shortly before seeing large flames from a nearby shed.

A witness said he was the one who called 911 after spotting the fire at the complex, off L. B. McLeod Road, just west of the John Young Parkway.

He said he heard what sounded like multiple small explosions but didn't know it was a vehicle that caught fire.

 

When they arrived, investigators said they found an SUV engulfed in flames in a narrow area behind the shed. The fire burned the SUV to the metal. 

 

When firefighters put out the flames, they found the Green's body inside the vehicle.

Detectives are investigating this as a homicide. Authorities have not said whether they're searching for anyone.
