PINELLAS COUNTY, Fla. -- A 17-year-old girl was arrested Wednesday in connection to what deputies say was a threat she made toward a classmate during a Facebook Live video.

  • 17-year-old girl, classmate both go to Bayside High School
  • Classmate said she was being bullied by 17-year-old at school

Officials said a mother, Tasha Riley, 43, alerted the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office to the video posted by the girl, who we are not identifying in accordance with our crime guidelines.

Investigators learned that the girl who allegedly did the Facebook Live told the classmate to watch the video, during which she made "threatening statements" toward her while displaying what appeared to be an AR-15-style weapon.

"When I saw it, I was upset, I was like, 'She holding an assault rifle talking about she going to shoot my child," Riley said. "Then there's other kids in the video talking about my baby, don't even know anything about my baby."

According to deputies, the 17-year-old spoke directly to the classmate in the video posted Tuesday, stating, "Let me just let you f***g know, I stay strapped on go, 24-mother-f***g-seven!" The 17-year-old then picked up the rifle, displayed it to the camera and said, "A fat a** AR! I'll shoot your dumba**!"

"If this girl's up here with an assault rifle talking about she's going to shoot my child, ok, what am I supposed to do, not do anything?" Riley said. "No, that's my only child. That's the only child I got."

Deputies said the classmate commented on the video, and the 17-year-old replied, threatening to kill her by shooting her. The classmate told deputies that the 17-year-old had been bullying her at Bayside High School, where the two both go to school.

According to the classmate, the bullying started because she was talking to the 17-year-old's boyfriend.

The 17-year-old was arrested at about 3 a.m. Wednesday at her St. Petersburg home, according to officials. Her mother was cooperative with investigators, according to the agency, as deputies confirmed the girl did not, in fact, have access to firearms in her home.

The 17-year-old is being held at the Pinellas County Juvenile Assessment Center. She was charged with making written threats to kill or do bodily injury via electronic communication.

Deputies are still trying to determine where the 17-year-old shot the Facebook Live video.
