DOVER, Fla. -- The owner of a Ford F-250 believed to be involved in a fatal hit-and-run accident that killed a 13-year-old-boy in Dover has surrendered his vehicle to authorities.

  • Jesus Navarro Jr., 13, killed May 6
  • Navarro Jr. walking along Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard when hit
  • No charges against truck owner filed yet

The Florida Highway Patrol calls the owner a "person of interest" in the case, but he has not been arrested.

The owner of the truck turned the vehicle over to authorities Tuesday through his attorney.

Jesus Navarro, Jr. was walking along Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. in the early morning hours of May 6 when he was hit and killed.

The boy's parents speak Spanish, and through an interpreter told us they are devastated.

"They can't sleep, they can't eat. It's a very, very painful situation," said the interpreter.

The family said they are hoping whoever hit Navarro will face charges.

"They feel like justice needs to be done," said the interpreter.

FHP said the truck is being examined and the accident remains under investigation.

Meanwhile, students and staff at Turkey Creek Middle School, where Jesus was a student, have raised money to pay for his funeral.
