PINELLAS PARK, Fla. -- A Pinellas County deputy was involved in a crash in Pinellas Park on Sunday, according to Sheriff’s Office.

The crash happened at about 1:40 p.m. along 49th Street North at 118th Avenue.

Deputy Wyeth Whitehurst, 29, was responding to a call at the time.

As Whitehurst approached the intersection, a 2017 Toyota Tacoma driven by Jeremy Whitney hit the passenger side of the deputy’s Chevy Tahoe.

Whitney was taken to a hospital for minor injuries. Whitehurst and his K9 were not injured in the crash.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, Whitehurst had his lights and sirens activated.

Whitney was cited for failing to yield to an emergency vehicle.

The Major Accident Investigation Team is investigating the crash.
