The St. Petersburg Police Department arrested a 28-year-old man in connection to a series of gym thefts.

Police said Cody Heilig is accused of going into local gyms, stealing car keys from the locker rooms, entering the victim's car, and stealing credit cards. 

Police said Heilig would used the stolen cards to buy gift cards and clothes. 

The police department said neighboring agencies--Pinellas Sheriff's Office, Largo PD, and Hillsborough Sheriff's Office--had similar crimes in their jurisdictions, and were able to help identify Heilig as the suspect.

Heilig was arrested Wednesday, May 16, at a local hotel. 

Heilig has been charged in three cases so far, police said.

He faces 11 felony charges:

  • Felon in Possession of a Firearm

  • Fraudulent Use of a Credit Card (3 counts)
  • Possession of a Stolen Credit Card (3 counts)
