HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY -- An impaired wrong-way driver was arrested Thursday morning after he rammed into an FHP patrol car and fled from troopers.

The incident started at about 5:04 a.m. Thursday when troopers received a call about a 2011 Nissan Rogue traveling northbound in the southbound lanes of I-75 near the Hillsborough and Manatee County line. 

According to the report, a trooper overtook the suspect at a traffic signal at the intersection of US 41 and Gibsonton Road. FHP said the suspect, without warning, reversed and rammed the front of the FHP patrol car, then fled southbound on US 41, and was seen traveling south in the northbound lanes. 

As troopers pursued the suspect, the driver attempted to ram other patrol cars, according to the report. 

The troopers were able to stop the suspect at US 41 and 105 Street SE. 

The driver, identified as Joseph Neumair, 34, was taken into custody and charged with fleeing and eluding, DUI, DUI property damage, reckless driving, and aggravated battery upon a law enforcement officer. 

Neumair was booked into the Hillsborough County jail.
