They're a fact of life in summer around these parts: triple digits.

While the 20th century endured a mere 11 triple digit days each year on average, recent history paints a much hotter picture.

From 2000 to 2015, the 100-plus day average jumped up to 32 per year and, in the past 10 years, that number has grown to 38.

Historically, the first triple digit day hits, July 7, on average.

If the three record-breaking hot days in a row are any indication, some area thermometers could easily hit 100 before the end of May.

In the above video, Chief Meteorologist Burton Fitzsimmons talks about the triple-digit track record for Central Texas and also reminds us to take heat very seriously. It can kill.
