TAMPA -- Negotiations are picking up again for the Hillsborough County School Board and its teachers.

  • Hillsborough teachers, district return to negotiating table
  • Board previously proposed $30 million offer
  • No deal as of yet

The district and the Hillsborough Classroom Teachers Association will continue negotiations Wednesday afternoon at the Hillsborough County Public Schools Instructional Services Center.

Teachers have spent this school year working on last year's contract. Teachers have said they were previously promised raises but school officials have said there is not funds in the budget.

The school board and its teachers remain about $30 million apart of teacher pay increases.

The impasse had led to teacher protests over the past several months at the district office and multiple schools.

However, the district has made a proposal that will benefit some teachers: to raise the salaries of about 3,600 teachers that were initially promised the pay increase.

With a total of about 15,000 teachers total, it could cost about $30 million to give out all the pay increases for the 2018-19 school year.
