Today is the last day of school for several Bay area counties and school districts are working to put in place some new policies for the upcoming school year.

In Pinellas County, the district is still budget planning for the upcoming school year. However, board members voted this week to hire armed security officers rather than law enforcement officers to man elementary schools. The hiring process starts in July.

In Hillsborough County, there will be an armed school security officer at every elementary school and a law enforcement officer in every middle and high school. The district is currently accepting applications for the school security officers.

However, the district is still working with the Hillsborough Classroom Teachers Association to reach an agreement on teacher pay.

In Pasco County, the school district has already hired several safety guards with the goal of hiring 53 total by June 4 when training begins.

One issue in Pasco, though, is over boundaries and where your kids will go to school next year. The school board is scheduled to vote on the superintendent's boundary recommendation Tuesday.

After that vote, the district will open a brief choice application window for all affected students.
