If there’s one thing Floridians hopefully learned last year, it’s to prepare for hurricane season.

  • Tax-free week begins Friday for storm supplies
  • Stores already stocking shelves due to Alberto
  • Officials say Floridians should plan ahead

That’s why tax-free week begins on Friday for storm supplies.

Thanks to Alberto, some stores already have their stock ready to go, even before the tax holiday begins.

The storm is bringing back some bad memories of Hurricane Irma for Odessa Ace store manager Jordan Postoskie.

“We were out of everything. We were getting emergency trucks in. Everyone waited until the last minute and that’s probably the wrong thing to do,” Postoskie said.

That’s why her store already has hurricane supplies stocked and ready to go.

It’s ahead of next week’s sales tax holiday for storm gear. Things like batteries, flashlights, generators, tape and other items will be tax free from June 1st – 7th.

Some are already scouting out their supplies.

“I do a lot of preps,” said Odessa resident Tim Roth. “So if a storm does come in, I’m prepared for it and the family is safe. To me, that’s what it’s all about.”

State officials have the tax free week to encourage families to make their plan early and get things long before a storm is about to hit.

“It’s super important to start early. Start now before we don’t have anything left in stock or you’re running around looking for stuff,” Postoskie said.
