The trip involves departing for Key West at eight in the morning, and returning to Lakeland at nine in the evening.

The inaugural flight departed on June 2. Doug Deneve and his wife were among the travelers. It was the Bartow couple’s first time visiting Key West.

"It's a great thing. I've been all up and down the Keys except Key West. I've always wanted to go but it's a really long drive from this part of the state. So if I can get on a plane and be there in an hour, that's great," said Doug Deneve.

The plane can have up to 30 passengers and it's a 50-minute charter flight, according to Daryl Hicks, with Legacy Flights.

Hicks said Legacy Flights hopes to offer daycations to Bimini in a few weeks, where travelers can get a resort room for the day and enjoy the resort's pool and beach.

By the end of the summer, he said the company is hoping to offer trips that involve an overnight stay as well as daycations to Savannah and Gatlinburg.
